The March market update is here.

Across Whatcom County, we’re seeing prices continue to rise while inventory is slowly building. Some areas are moving faster than others, but overall it’s still a competitive market with more options than this time last year.

If you’re thinking about buying or selling, the details in your specific area matter more than ever.

Hello fellow "word readers!" Recent amendments to Washington State law to help protect equal access to real estate listing information go into effect this June. If you plan to sell or buy real estate, make sure your broker is a Realtor, and is in compliance!

Sometimes, industry "Disrupters" with unlimited private equity available to pursue lawsuits are just that, disruptive, as they prioritize capturing a monopoly of market share for profits, regardless of Fair Housing laws, or what's best for our clients. Kudos to Washington State Legislators who are providing a good example nationally for state legislative leadership.

I support federal and our more protective WA State Fair Housing laws and the Realtor Code of Ethics featuring broker cooperation and equal access to listing data. It pays to consult a Realtor National Association of REALTORS® Washington Realtors Whatcom County Association of Realtors

From Washington Realtors: "New State Law: Market All Residential Listings Publicly

On June 11, 2026, the following provision will be added to Washington’s Agency Law:

“A broker may not market the sale or lease of residential real estate to a limited or exclusive group of prospective buyers or brokers, or any combination thereof, unless the real estate is concurrently marketed to the general public and all other brokers, except as reasonably necessary to protect the health or safety of the owner or occupant. Marketing to the general public does not require an owner to allow access onto the residential real estate or into the residence.”

February 2026 market numbers are in for Bellingham and surrounding communities.

Bellingham homes are selling faster than this time last year, while inventory has increased in several nearby markets like Ferndale and Lynden.

Every area is a little different right now. If you’re curious what these numbers mean for your neighborhood, I’m happy to help.

Update: June 1, 2027 is the new deadline for responding if you received a Whatcom County Water Rights Judicial Summons. To help quantify regional water use and preserve potential water rights for your property, it's important to fill & deliver your water rights adjudication application.

On March 17, we sent adjudication documents via certified mail to all landowners in Water Resources Inventory Area (WRIA) 1 who are within the area of a recorded water right or outside a public water system service area.  If you use water directly from surface or groundwater in WRIA 1, you need to ...

Reminder to Whatcom County and some Skagit Co WIRA 1 (Water Inventory Resource Area 1) well-using neighbors to fill out your Water Adjudication forms and submit them prior to the May 1 deadline. Doing so will help to quantify local private well water use and will help preserve valuable water rights for your property. Failing to do so could cause your property to lose water rights. For more information: ecology.wa.gov/nooksack-adjudication. Several public information sessions and private appointments are available for assistance in filling out the forms.
