Writing tip of the day:
Which is correct?
A. If you have any questions about the contract please ask Tom or I?

B. If you have any questions about the contract please ask Tom or me?

Answer: B. Use "me" rather than "I" as the object of a sentence. An easy way to know which pronounxto use: Read the sentence without the other name. You wouldn't say "Please ask I," right?

Mix White Vinegar with water for the best all purpose cleaning solution. Here are a few tips on where NOT to use a vinegar solution:

1. Natural stones such as marble and granite. The acid in vinegar can cause etching in natural stones. Instead use warm water with a mild liquid dish detergent.

2. Stone floor tiles may also, not do well with the acid of vinegar. Using water, stone soap and dish detergent is best.

3. Cleaning up a raw egg spill with vinegar will make it coagulate and be hard to clean up.

4. Test on a hidden part of upholstered items to be sure it doesnt react.

5. Mixing vinegar with chlorine will cause a TOXIC chlorine v***r which is dangerous.

6. To be safe it is best to use a cleaning product recommended by a wood floor installation company as vinegar can sometimes damage a wood floor.

Now for THE DOS when cleaning with a vinegar solution:

1. White distilled vinegar is a natural deodorizer so is great in your laundry and is also a natural fabric softener. Use 1 cup for a full load in the rinse cycle

2. Mix equal parts water to vinegar in a spray bottle (can add a small amount of rubbing alcohol and a couple drops of dish soap also)for windows and mirrors.

3. This equal part solution is great for bathroom cleaning also. Full strength white vinegar can be used to clean the toilet. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant.

4. Run some vinegar through the garbage disposal to kill bacteria and odors.

5. Use full strength to clean the top of a fridg and other appliances.

6. Use 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water to clean the microwave. Put into a microwavable cup or bowl and bring to a boil inside the microwave, then wipe clean easily.

7. Need to remove decala or stickers from glass or plastic? Just put Undiluted vinegar on the sticker, let it sit a few minutes and peel off.

8. Can use undiluted vinegar to polish cutlery and utensils.

9. Use undiluted vinegar to clean shower heads and faucets. Soak a cloth in vinegar then wrap the cloth around the shower head overnight.

There are numerous uses for this inexpensive natural cleaner and disinfectant. Far better than expensive, toxic chemicals.

Professional tips for Holiday Lighting installation outdoors:

Have another person help with the project to hold the strings of lights AND your ladder

Avoid hanging lights in the rain. Use a fiberglass ladder and wood polies; wear gloves and rubber-soled shoes.

Use a legitimate outdoor outlet with a GFCI circuit breaker. A 12-amp circuit can handle a maximum of 1,800 total watts; a 20-amp circuit can handle 2,400 watts.

Instead of staples or screws there are special clips for hanging lights on just about any surface. Hot glue is an option for rough surfaces.

Use timers for all your outdoor lights to ensure they are safely turned off each night.

Reminders for maintenance and safety this winter:
Seal Cold Air Gaps around windows, floors, and doors to help keep your home warmer and less drafty.

Clean the gutters to keep rain and snow from getting under the eaves.

Check Smoke and CO2 detectors. For safety, detectors need to me less than 10 years old. Changing batteries twice a year ensures you aren't awakened by the high pitched beeping of a low battery. :-)

FEMA recommends emergency supplies on hand of food, water and medical supplies to last two weeks in case of a natural disaster, major storm or an earthquake resulting in a severe power outage.
