Programs across the state have built a solid base for housing stability, workforce development, and economic opportunity.

But here’s the gap: while these initiatives strengthen neighborhoods and open doors to more options, connecting downsizing families with specialized moving and storage help isn’t yet a standard part of municipal or nonprofit services. That leaves many to piece together resources on their own during an already overwhelming process.

If you’re named in the will, you typically have more flexibility to act according to its instructions. Without a will, the process is shaped by Massachusetts’ strict rules for distributing assets, and every move is closely overseen by the probate court.

Before any sale, you’ll need to file paperwork, alert heirs and creditors, carefully document every asset, and keep thorough records for the court. Selling at the right moment can be key, but keeping every party in the loop and following the right steps is just as critical. ⚖️
