We're back with more Good News Gaston! This week marks the 10th annual Gaston County Manufacturing Week, which is organized by the Gaston County Economic Development Commission. Manufacturing Week is full of events that showcases Gaston County's great manufacturing partners and the people working to strengthen the county's workforce.

And today, we are especially proud to recognize a significant milestone: the 10th anniversary of the Gaston County Association of Manufacturers (GCAM) and a decade of bringing our manufacturing community together.

Gaston County’s manufacturing story runs deep. From our roots as the “Textile Capital of the World” to today's diverse and highly advanced manufacturing economy, generations of manufacturers have helped shape our communities, create opportunities, and build the foundation of the Gaston County we know today.

While the industries and technologies have evolved, one thing has remained the same: Gaston County is a community built by manufacturers.

NC State University and Gaston College Kimbrell Campus in Belmont will lead a Department of Defense initiative aimed at improving production and performance of textiles used by the military.

The FutureTEX award launches the Defense Department’s ninth Manufacturing Innovation Institute, and includes $36 million in the first year and has a ceiling of $480 million over a decade. It will bring together industry, government, university and nonprofit partners to advance manufacturing technologies of textiles for military and domestic applications.
