Gardening? But itβs snowing π€£. Actually now is a great time to start some early planting. Have you planned your flower garden or vegetable garden out yet? If you have a spot you want flowers to grow this spring, you can throw the seeds out in that area right before it snows or as the snow is melting! Just wait to see what happens this spring π±πΏπΊπΈπΌ
π±Yes, it's only mid-February, but our Seed Library is officially open!
The first seeds rolling out are native perennials that were packaged by our January program volunteers. (Thank you to the 20 volunteers who put together more than 1,200 packets!) We have more than a dozen varieties available, and will continue to add seeds monthly through June as they are packaged.
The native perennials can be strewn outdoors on bare ground just before an anticipated snowfall, started indoors under a plant light, or winter sown in a mini greenhouse made from milk a jug. Our staff have handouts, instructions, a catalog with details on our offerings, books, and other resources near the seed display to help you get started.
This year, the seed library will feature a huge variety of seeds thanks to so many generous donors, including:
π± High Mowing Seeds
π± Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
π± Prairie Moon Nursery
π± Ferry-Morse Seed Co
π± Local volunteers
It seems strange to say this as snowflakes are falling, but ... happy planting!
