One of the things we love about living here is that there's always something to discover, often just a short drive from home.

Our fall cleanup crew has two supervisors. One sits in the leaf pile, and the other is apparently testing it for comfort. Neither has offered to rake. 🍂🐾

The yard work might take a little longer with these helpers, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. A sunny day in our backyard, a few piles of leaves, and these two keeping us company makes even the chores feel pretty good.

When we talk about finding the right home, this is part of it, too. A little room for the things you enjoy and the ones who make every day better, including the ones tracking leaves back inside.

We may get a little carried away with Halloween at our house, but we love it. 🎃

There’s something sweet about watching families stop out front, kids pointing at the decorations and neighbors pausing to chat. Those little moments are our favorite part of putting it all together.

This is our home, and getting to share a little fun with the people around us makes it that much more special. We hope it brings a smile to your evening, too.

Interest rates get a lot of attention in real estate, but they’re only part of the story.

When rates fall, payments can become more affordable, but more buyers may enter the market and competition can increase. When rates are higher, payments cost more, but buyers may face less competition. For sellers, that makes pricing, presentation and marketing even more important.

So instead of asking, “Are rates good enough yet?” maybe the better question is, “What does the market look like when you’re ready to move?”

You can go from lakefront to prairie to wetlands without ever leaving Southern Wisconsin.

Three counties. Three very different ways to get outside. One of the things I love about Southern Wisconsin is how quickly the landscape can change. Drive across Rock, Walworth and Kenosha Counties and you’ll find lakefront, prairie, wetlands, woods and trails, all within a pretty easy drive of one another.

In Walworth County, Big Foot Beach State Park sits along Geneva Lake just south of Lake Geneva. It’s one of those places that can be something different depending on the day. You can camp, hike, swim, paddle, fish or simply find a quiet spot near the water. In fall, the combination of lake and changing leaves makes it especially beautiful.

Head east into Kenosha County and the story changes completely. Richard B**g State Recreation Area covers thousands of acres of prairie, wetlands, woodland and open space. What makes it even more interesting is its history. The property was once intended to become an Air Force jet base before those plans were abandoned. Today, instead of fighter jets, you’ll find hikers, campers, horseback riders, birdwatchers and people exploring one of the largest outdoor recreation areas in this part of Wisconsin.

Rock County tells a quieter version of the story. While it doesn’t have a traditional Wisconsin property carrying the “State Park” name, the county has a collection of State Natural Areas protecting prairie, wetlands, woods and other pieces of the landscape that make this part of Wisconsin special.

Maybe that’s the bigger story. When we talk about choosing where to live, we tend to talk about the house, the neighborhood, schools, restaurants and the commute. But sometimes it’s also about what you can reach on a Saturday morning. A lake, a trail, a campground or a patch of prairie you didn’t even know was there. That’s part of what makes Southern Wisconsin such an interesting place to call home.
