Looking for ways to better clean your home for guest or listing your home? Here’s a great list!
With everyone preparing for guest for the holidays, we thought we’d share some cleaning tips that will help keep your home not only clean but help maintain the lifetime of most things (appliances, HVAC system, flooring). We’ve seen properties in all conditions, the ones that are the most well kept use these tips and tricks.
✨Basic clean, should be done the most frequent:
- Change your A/C filter every 30 days at MINIMUM, every 3 weeks if you smoke in the home.
- Sweep, dust, mop and vacuum at least once a month, should really be done every week or two.
- Do not hold onto trash or cardboard for longer than necessary, these are pest favorite things to eat and settle in. Plastic containers are best for storage.
- Dryer sheets work great for cleaning base boards and will help the home smell clean.
- Cheap dishwasher pods in mop water solution will help keep pest away, should only be done if there is a pest issue.
- Exterior should be swept monthly (porches, patios and siding) to help keep dirt from building up.
✨Deep clean, should be done quarterly or semi-annually:
- wash all the doors and door frames with a safe multipurpose cleaner and soft sponge.
- Clean all grout in the home, dirt and smells absorb into the grout.
- Clean appliances, microwave, oven, fridge, dishwasher, all of it!
- Have pest control spray to help keep pest away and not let any issues begin.
- Windows and window seals should be dusted and cleaned.
- Jets in jetted tubs should be cleaned with a safe jet-tub cleaner, should run with the cleaning solution for a 10-20 minute period to ensure the jets are fully cleaned and flushed out.
✨Super deep clean, should be done annually:
- Shampoo the carpets to help maintain their lifetime and ensure cleanliness, should be done more frequently if you smoke, and/or have pets in the home.
- pull out appliances and clean all around it (Fridge, oven, washer and dryer).
- Change out water filter in fridge.
- Wash walls with a safe multipurpose cleaner, especially if you smoke and/or have children/pets in the home.
- Clean out cabinets, pantries, hallway closets, etc., at least once a year. Take out what you don’t need, donate it, throw it away, clean/dust the shelves and reorganize.
- Window screens should be washed.
✨Super duper deep clean, should be done at least every three years:
- Take off the air vents and scrub them clean.
- Have the A/C ducts professionally cleaned!! The dust and dander that collects in them smells like whatever you have in the home (pets or smoke). This is one of the best ways to ensure your home doesn’t smell and help maintain the lifetime of your HVAC unit.
- Exterior of home should be power washed.

To have all of these done is the most ideal when listing your home for rent or for sale, to ensure it is the most presentable for prospective buyers/tenants. This list should also be considered if you’re renting, and how to ensure you get the most of your deposit back.
Happy preparing for the holidays!!
