What is a sewer scope, and why does every home buyer need one?

A sewer scope is a camera inspection of a home’s main sewer line. It shows cracks, tree root intrusion, grease buildup, and other damage before you close on a home.

I recommend a sewer scope for every buyer I work with, whether it’s a resale or brand new construction.

Here’s why new construction isn’t automatically safe. Builders install a test cap during construction to keep debris out of the line while the home is being built. If that cap is never removed, it can cause a sewer backup after move-in.

An inspector once told me about a job where the blockage in the line was a GI Joe action figure.

And you know what GI Joe always says? Knowing is half the battle.

A sewer scope typically costs $200 to $300. It’s one of the smallest costs in a home purchase, and one of the most valuable, since a hidden sewer issue can cost thousands to repair after closing.

🔥The Akawa Butte Fire is the number one priority wildfire in the entire United States right now.

This is the view from Tetherow, here in SW Bend, and you can see just how huge this plume is. I wanted to share it because for anyone not here in Bend, this gives you a real sense of what NE Central Oregon is up against. That plume is bigger than any peak in the skyline.

It is not touching us, but the wind has kept the smoke away from us this past week. Over 1,100 firefighters are out there right now dealing with it directly. Thank you to every one of them.

Downtown Sisters is not in an evacuation zone and shops and restaurants there are open right now. Black Butte Ranch is open too. If you can, support them from afar. Order online, get things delivered.

Sisters Bakery. Sisters Coffee. Sisters Smokehouse. And any other local shops or restaurants in Sisters, support them however you can.

Spontaneous decision to ride down and catch the Jordan Davis concert. We missed grabbing last minute tickets but I think I love the seat we found even better. I will post more later.
