Welcome to our Friday Feature! Every week, we shine a spotlight on one of our amazing brokers to share a more personal look at who they are beyond real estate.

This week, we are thrilled to feature Mike Helms, who has been a licensed real estate agent for 7 years and will be celebrating his first year with REMAX Key Properties next Spring. We had the pleasure of chatting with Mike to ask a few fun and random questions:

Where are you from?
Willamette Valley, Oregon. My wife and I have always loved Central Oregon. We had enjoyed many vacations staying in Sunriver and skiing the slopes of beautiful Mt. Bachelor. The nearby High Lakes of the Cascade Mountains also became a family destination while our girls were growing up. We sold the family farm in 2009 and moved to Central Oregon in 2010. Our family's roots were deep in the Willamette Valley, so this was quite a transition for us. Although we miss our extended families, we have enjoyed the journey so far.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
There is nothing better than relaxing in my boat, and fishing at Diamond Lake. This is a place in my heart and my family's as well. I was a young boy when I first camped with my family at Diamond Lake. Then it became an annual summer event for my own family for many years. There are so many memories there for us.

Sweet, salty, or spicy?
All three. My wife bakes incredible desserts. I especially love her pies. Hamburgers were every Friday night when I was growing up. I still love my burgers, and I could eat those several times a week with no problem! Of course, there is nothing like a perfectly grilled carne asada with a spicy salsa. I grew up with french fries and potato chips and still get a craving for those foods today. One couldn't go wrong with a Bob's 19 cent burger, fries, and a milkshake!

What’s the most memorable place you’ve ever visited?
The islands visited while on a Caribbean cruise. My wife and I loved the warm waters of the places we visited where the cruise ship would dock each day. We did a lot of snorkeling and tried to experience the countryside as much as possible on each island we visited. The landscape was much different than that of the Willamette Valley, and we soaked in the beautiful flowers and all the viewpoints.
I’ve also made some wonderful memories while at my cabin in the Blue Mountains.
Time at the cabin was important for my wife and I, because it gave us a chance to find that peaceful calm away from the hustle and bustle of farming activities and life's pressures. It was our quiet spot... a place to rejuvenate and recreate. I found that in my gold sluicing and fishing in the nearby reservoirs and lakes. We have so many memories from living among the wolves, bears, cougars, deer, elk, and bighorn sheep. There is a plaque I have seen that said, "If you were lucky enough to have a cabin, you were lucky enough." Luck had nothing to do with it... We were blessed to have that cabin in the Blue Mountains, and neither of us would trade all of our experiences for anything.

What inspired you to get into real estate?
My love for the land and helping people realize their dreams. I have farmed and ranched since I was twenty years old. These years spent in the fields, working the land, planting the crops, fertilizing and watering, and then watching the crops grow until harvest time brought value to my real estate business, because I actually lived the life I am trying to sell. While ranching, I learned to know the grazing capacity of a ranch; whether there are government grazing permits; and if irrigated, water rights must be researched and understood. Farming and ranching were my life for so long that I still think about all the great times and adventures I experienced.

This week, we are thrilled to feature Ryan Fisher, who has been a licensed real estate agent for 4 years and will be celebrating his second year with REMAX Key Properties this month! We had the pleasure of chatting with Ryan to ask a few fun and random questions:

Where are you from?
Bend, OR

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
I love getting outside with my wife and daughter, grabbing some coffee, trying a new restaurant, sneaking in some golf, and spending time with friends and family!

Sweet, salty, or spicy?
Salty, but spicy is a very close second!

What’s the most memorable place you’ve ever visited?
Denmark — loved the history, architecture, food, and overall vibe, especially in Copenhagen! Exploring the country and getting to meet a lot of my wife’s family who live there made it even more memorable.

What inspired you to get into real estate?
I’ve always enjoyed getting out and seeing different homes and properties, and real estate gave me a chance to turn that curiosity into something more. I also really enjoy working with people and being able to help others, so it felt like a great fit. A big inspiration was watching my wife take the leap and start her own business. Seeing her go for it pushed me to get outside my own comfort zone and pursue something I had a genuine interest in. It’s been a great way to challenge myself, build connections and do something that feels rewarding at the same time!

This week, we are thrilled to feature Selena McNeill, who has been a licensed real estate agent for 22 years and recently celebrated her 15th year with REMAX Key Properties! We had the pleasure of chatting with Selena to ask a few fun and random questions:

Where are you from?
Connecticut/Scotland. I have been in Central Oregon since 1997. My parents wanted to move here for the skiing at Mt. Bachelor, and my dad's best friend also lives here. It was quite the culture shock as a sophomore in high school, but it was an adventure and I love it here!

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
Hanging with my family and our family horse.

Sweet, salty, or spicy?
Sweet and salty. One of my favorite snacks is milk chocolate-covered almonds and salted cashews/pistachios.

What’s the most memorable place you’ve ever visited?
We took a few family trips to Hawaii, which were super fun and relaxing!

What inspired you to get into real estate?
I worked for a property manager and they suggested that I should get into Real Estate. I loved going to open houses with my parents as a kid. They were always moving around so I loved looking at houses from a young age.
What I love about being in Real Estate is helping people move into the next chapter of their lives. It is incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful for every client who trusts me with their journey.
