Real estate has always been about more than property to me. I grew up watching firsthand how this profession could create opportunity, independence, and long-term wealth. My mother built an extraordinary career in real estate, but what stayed with me most wasn't the transactions or accolades. It was her belief that success meant creating opportunities for others, investing in communities, and leaving something meaningful behind.

In my latest article for Cascade Business News, I look at the remarkable role women have played in shaping residential real estate and why I believe this profession remains one of America's greatest pathways to entrepreneurship, leadership, and opportunity.

A great investment isn’t just about what you pay today or what a property might be worth next year. I’m looking at the things that can create lasting value: location, quality, scarcity, land, community, and the characteristics that simply can’t be replicated. The best properties have a way of holding their relevance over time. They become places to live, assets to hold, and sometimes, something worth passing down. That’s the kind of value I’m always looking for.

You know you’re in Bend when these three come into view. 😊 The smokestacks are such a familiar part of Bend now, but they’re actually remnants of the old Brooks-Scanlon lumber mill and a little piece of the timber industry that shaped so much of this town.

It’s kind of wild to think about what this area used to look like compared to what we know today. Now it’s river walks, concerts, patios, shopping, and one of my favorite places to spend a summer evening.

I love that the stacks stayed. Bend has changed A LOT over the years, but there are still these little pieces of its history tucked into everyday life.

For me, it’s going to a show at the amphitheater or keeping it simple and relaxing in my backyard with the pups. How about you? 😊

How does the home sit on the lot? Where does the afternoon sun hit? What's behind you? What's across the street? Is that open field going to stay an open field? What does traffic look like at 5pm? These are the things that can be easy to overlook when you’re really excited about a house, but they’re often the things you’ll notice most once you actually live there.

Pretty great summer so far! 😊 Lots of concerts at the amphitheater, a trip to Northern California and Umpqua River, some beautiful subsets, and time with loved ones.
