I am a licensed Broker with Windermere Real Estate, conveniently located in downtown Bend’s Old Mill District. I am a third generation realtor and specialize in residential and investment properties. As well as being a Real Estate Broker, property investor and hotelier, I have over 15 years’ experience working in the advertising and entertainment industry. I have an entrepreneurial approach to life and business and a well-earned reputation for helping my clients differentiate themselves from the market clutter. I am also a founding partner at LikeWhere.com, an online travel start-up based in Dublin, Ireland. I moved to Portland, Oregon in 2001 from San Diego, and lived on the Oregon coast for five years with my wife and two daughters before making my way to sunny Bend. Like many local residents I love being in the outdoors, riding Bend’s network of mountain bike trails, hiking with my daughters in the Cascades, bird watching, and floating the Deschutes. Two clients, two potential investments, and zero purchases. Not exactly what you'd expect to call a productive week in real estate! 😄

But finding a good investment in Bend isn't always easy. With turnkey properties, much of the value is often already baked into the asking price.

Sometimes the better opportunity is one you create yourself—adding an ADU, making improvements, or finding a smarter way to use a property.

It takes creativity, some good analysis, and knowing when the numbers just don't work.

Sometimes the best investment decision is the one you don't make.

I’ll be there with local lender Kip Pierson of Northwestern Home Loans for a casual conversation about real estate, financing, investing, ADUs, short-term rentals, and what we’re seeing in the market right now.

I’ll also share a little about my new ADU project and why I’m excited about this next investment.

I was at Kiln’s launch party a couple of weeks ago and included a few photos from the event — the new space is really cool and worth checking out on its own.

A little belated, but a week and a half ago I had the chance to tag along with my daughter and her Scout troop for a weekend at Lava Beds National Monument — and what a great trip.

We camped, explored lava tube caves, saw some incredible pictographs, and visited the Tule Lake site and learned more about the Japanese American incarceration that took place there during World War II.

My daughter and I also snuck away for a little side trip to Glass Mountain to explore the obsidian flows.

Lava Beds has always been a special place for us. I took my girls there many times when they were growing up, often stopping to camp on our way down to California to visit family. Getting to go back now — and spend a few days adventuring with my freshly minted Eagle Scout — felt pretty special.

Very grateful I got to tag along. Such a fun weekend.

I had such a great time—and learned a ton—at this year’s BiggerPockets Conference in Orlando!

I met some amazing people, made some great connections, and even got the chance to chat with a few people I’ve followed and admired for years.

Now I’m looking forward to getting back to Bend and putting some of what I learned to work—searching for, analyzing, and helping clients identify investment properties that can actually perform.

Always learning. Always looking for the next great opportunity.

Trying on jeans…

One of the reasons I love working with buyers is that I’ve never really thought of my job as selling houses.

I think of it more like being the friend you’d take shopping for a great pair of jeans.

The friend who says, “Go try one more.”

The friend who notices you’re getting tired and says, “Let’s grab lunch. We can always come back.”

Every house you walk through is part of the process. Some help you discover what you don’t want. Others remind you what matters most.

None of them are wasted.

They’re how you recognize the one that fits.

You don’t have to know exactly what you’re looking for. Sometimes you just have to start trying things on.

I spent about 15 years working in advertising before I got into real estate.

One thing that still surprises me is how rarely homeowners ask to see a Realtor’s marketing before they hire them.

They ask about experience.

They ask about commission.

They ask about the market.

Almost nobody asks to see the work.

To me, that’s like hiring an architect without looking at a building they’ve designed.

Marketing has been my profession for most of my career. Real estate just gave me a different product to market.
