Tonight it was brought to our attention that a Mennonite organization of 30-50 people had brought out 2 commercial parking lot flood lights, generators to run them, built an ice hockey rink out of 2x4’s, and were playing hockey with full pads and regulation nets. Additionally, there were a couple knee high children skating 100 yards from the shore line at 10 o’clock at night. First and foremost, this is not safe. The lake is not frozen enough for this. In most places, the ice is no more than 1.5 inches thick. Secondly, Lake Moses is private property. Only members of the home owners association have any rights to be on or use the lake. The individuals mentioned above are not members of the home owners association. They were asked politely to leave, but refused. Local law enforcement has been made aware and is willing to aid in keeping people safe. If you see anyone on the lake please encourage them to get off and call police if necessary.
We can’t stand the thought of a tragedy happening without trying to make people aware. There are a few shallow necks where you can be lulled into a false sense of security because it will hold your weight, but the lake gets deep and is moving underneath, flowing towards the spillway. It simply will not get cold enough for long enough around here for anyone to be on the lake and it be safe. We are afraid that families will think this is OK after watching the videos now on social media and harm themselves or worse. Thank you for your understanding.
