The Alice L. Walton School of Medicine in Bentonville, Arkansas, recently welcomed its first class of 48 students. Founded by Walmart heiress Alice Walton, the school takes a different approach to medical training by focusing on preventive care, whole-person health, and lifestyle factors like nutrition and mental well-being. Walton, who is covering tuition for the first five classes, hopes the school will improve access to care in underserved areas like Arkansas and inspire similar changes nationwide. The school blends traditional medical training with courses in the arts, hands-on gardening, and community service.
