I just found this Strong Towns video that shares my viewpoint. I've brought this up when discussing "what will happen next" in regards to housing in the wake of the ongoing LA fires.

Too much of our economy is propped up by inflated asset prices. No major political party or financial institution can allow too much of a market correction in terms of house prices. There would be too great of an impact on the rest of the economy.

SOLD! After 4 busy days on market, my sellers accepted an offer for $110,000 over asking price.

I'm very happy for the buyers, who got into an exceptional neighborhood at a great price, and for my seller clients, who can now realize their reward for so much hard work.

After being in the same family for 45 years, this home was sold by a collection of descendants of the original owners. While much of the work was performed by local contractors I recommended, my heart was warmed to see the extended family members come together and do so much work themselves. Family came from near and far to get their hands dirty and bond over their shared past.
