Let's talk a walk through La Grange’s history!

The La Grange Area Historical Society is a local gem dedicated to preserving the stories, people, and places that helped shape our community. From the historic Samuel Vial House to its fascinating collection of local artifacts, there’s plenty to discover for history lovers and curious neighbors alike.

This summer, be sure to check out “A Walk Through Time,” their newest exhibition featuring clothing, objects, and stories from 1890–1970. Explore how fashion, everyday life, and the La Grange area changed from decade to decade.

5 Red Flags to Watch for When Buying a Home

Every home has imperfections, and not every issue is a deal breaker. The goal isn't to find a flawless home, but to understand which concerns may require further evaluation or affect your investment. Here are five important red flags to look for:

1. Old or Faulty Electrical System
Look for outdated outlets, missing outlet covers, flickering lights, or an electrical panel that appears outdated. These can signal repairs or upgrades may be needed.

2. Uneven or Sloping Floors
Noticeable slopes, dips, or uneven flooring can be a sign of underlying structural or framing issues that deserve further inspection.

3. Strong or Unusual Odors
Persistent smells throughout the home can sometimes indicate ventilation problems, plumbing issues, or other conditions that may require investigation.

4. Roof Nearing the End of Its Life
A roof may look fine from the ground but still be approaching the end of its expected lifespan. Ask about its age, maintenance history, and inspection results.

5. Signs of Pest Activity
Look for small holes in wood, damaged trim, droppings, or other evidence that pests may have been present. A professional inspection can help determine whether there is an active or past issue.
