A year ago today in Lisbon, Portugal. (December 18 2024)
A Ginjinha Bar serving the famous Portuguese Cherry Liqueur.
Ginjinha (or Ginja) is a beloved, traditional Portuguese sour cherry liqueur, made by infusing sour cherries (ginjas) in alcohol (like brandy or aguardente) with sugar and sometimes cinnamon or cloves, resulting in a sweet, slightly tart, and aromatic drink popular in Lisbon and Óbidos, often served as a shot with or without the cherry. It’s a cultural staple, embodying Portuguese tradition in a small glass.
As the year starts to come to a close, have you thought about HOW ARE YOU…. setting yourself up for a strong financial future??
Can you contribute a small (or medium or big) amount on a monthly basis to a savings account?
Have you heard of a “high yield savings account”? - it makes more interest than a generic account.
Do you have a brokerage account? - for example … A Charles Schwab account, or Robinhood, or Vanguard or Fidelity… a place where you can buy into the stock market.
Consider setting aside a small savings on a consistent basis and watch it grow over time. Some mutual funds can earn consistently as much as 10%+ growth. Compounded over time it can lead to a solid financial future. (I invest in Vanguard and get an 11.5% return. For example… On $100,000 that’s $11,500 a year. On $1,000,000 it’s $115,000. And while the market is risky and there is NEVER a guarantee, by holding long term, historically there has been growth.
(Doing the above is smarter than holding money in a regular savings account like Chase, Wells Fargo or BofA which can offer as little as .01%.)
