William Baker Architectural Director at The Agency, specializing in historic & architecturally significant homes. Quincy Jones and Douglas Rucker, among others.

Specializing in the sale of historic and architecturally significant homes across Southern California, William Baker has represented iconic properties designed by Rudolph Schindler, Richard Neutra, Ray Kappe, A. William is widely considered an expert in the field. He is proud to bring his professional and personal passions, as well as integrity, to The Agency. An excellent negotiator with an impec

cable eye for detail, William is passionate about connecting clients with the right property while identifying the next steward for L.A.’s most treasured architectural homes. Throughout his life, William’s clients, associates, friends and family have looked to, leaned on, and trusted him for his opinion, whether in need of his practical, aesthetic, emotional or ethical advice. His decades of sales, marketing and design experience have equipped him with the skills and know-how to deftly meet and exceed the needs of a discerning clientele. William’s sold listings have been featured in Architectural Digest, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Forbes, USA Today, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Inside Edition, and many more. William moved to the Golden State from Chicago in the early 2000s to lead West Coast sales for an international design firm, with whom he had worked for nearly 20 years. With a keen eye and interest in classic modern architecture, William searched for the perfect home in several Southern California counties, settling in L.A.’s eastside community of Montecito Heights. His 1962 John L. Pugsley AIA-designed home was one of five residences selected for the 2018 Dwell on Design home tour and serves as a beautiful beacon of midcentury design in the unique hillside community, tucked between Downtown and Pasadena. Since buying his dream property, William has sought out and soaked up everything L.A. has to offer—from its eclectic real estate to its diverse culture, art, music, beer, food, fashion and fun. A native of Detroit, on weekends and warm summer evenings you can find him wringing out a German car (he’s bought and sold more than 60 of them), running, biking and hiking around the Arroyo, Rose Bowl, Griffith Park, Santa Monica mountains, or hanging out at Debs Park, just steps from his front door. William serves on the Board of Directors of the Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles, is a member of the Los Angeles Conservancy, and will soon celebrate his 20-year anniversary as a member of the Porsche Club of America.

FAVORITE NEIGHBORHOODS-One of the great enclaves of architectural properties in Los Angeles is the Gregory Ain Mar Vista Tract, planned in 1947.
By rotating the one floor plan in different directions, Ain was able to create a sense of variation between the houses.
Garage placement in relation to the house also gave each house its own individuality.

The average size of the houses was 1,060 square feet, exclusive of the double garage. The sales price of the homes was about $12,000, considerably higher than the contractor-inspired houses around nearby Venice Blvd. that were then selling for about $5,000. These properties seldom hit the market and are often sold off-market.
