It is the law to carry chains and if you need chains you’ll want gloves as well as warm clothing!

Before you head to Big Bear review this map and the 3 available routes.  It is best to be familiar with all choices in case a storm/accident/road condition forces you to re-route.  Do not not rely on GPS in the mountains.  When selecting a route, consider traffic conditions, weather conditions, chain requirements, and road work notices.

The three main roads to Big Bear Lake are:
    1.    Hwy 330 & 18 (through Highland) Shown on the map in Blue, Front Route
    2.    Hwy 38 (through Redlands) Shown on the map in Orange, Back Route
    3.    Hwy 18 (through Lucerne Valley) Shown on the map in Green, Alternative Back Route

You can check on all routes for road conditions here:
    1.    Caltrans Road Information Hotline (Save it on your cell) 800-427-7623  You will be asked for the Hwy Number and they report realtime conditions (road work closures, chain requirements, accidents). When weather is changing check more than once and have a passenger assigned to this task.

New snow in Big Bear!  Over all the years we've been hosting in Big Bear March stands out for snow, little known secret.  This is the weekend to use our sled hill steps from the cabin!

Garage with direct access to the front door makes unloading in the snow easy peasy.
