Something to chew on…….seems like there is so much negativity flying around about data centers. So here’s some numbers from a friend regarding land/water use of Oil Rigs…..just to compare.
Copied from a cousin of mine, makes you think a bit…….seems to me people get wired up about one thing, and haven’t compared numbers to other things that they love to see, that also boost the economy.
Here ya go:
With all the talk on data centers taking up land and water . I am no proponent of them. However, if you figure we have say 30 rigs drilling in ND. They drill 2 wells a month per rig . So 60 new wells a month . They use roughly 9.64 million gals of water per well to frac . 60 x 9.64 million gals/well = 578,400,000 gallons a month . Also , average pad is 4 to 7 acres not counting roads . So 7x60=420 acres a month of land stripped and gone . Most wells have 3 phase power running the pump jack using power . One year of this is 6,940,800,000 of water and 5040 acres of land . Just saying, correct me if I am wrong on my numbers.
