Designing with structural steel and concrete allows us to increase opening sizes to take advantage of great views. On the water side of this house on Back Bay home we designed a 30’ glass wall that will open and blur the line between the porch and the great room. In the photos you can see the large steel beam we added over this opening.
The ground floor structure is a driven pile supported foundation and 24” poured in place concrete columns. The elevated floor system is 4” concrete poured in place on galvanized metal deck on a structural steel beam grid. The main floor exterior walls are CMU block with the cells filled with reinforced concrete. The roof framing has structural steel beams added to the wood framing to allow for large open floor spaces without columns. This house will be beautiful and sturdy. I can’t wait to see it progress
