2301 Ensley is a proposed demolition and redevelopment of the former Ensley High School in the City of Birmingham, AL. Built in the early 1900s, Ensley High has long been a staple of the community that formed around it during the steel manufacturing boom. Unfortunately, in 2018, the building succumbed to a fire that made salvaging the iconic property unrealistic. The City then acquired the 10+ acre property from the Birmingham Public School system and selected Zimmerman Properties as the developer to bring much needed revitalization and affordable homes to the historic Ensley community. The proposed development, to be known as 2301 Ensley, will provide over 200+ affordable multi-unit rental apartment homes for all household types, and bring Zimmerman’s recent partnership with Star-C, and new partnership with East Lake Communities, Inc. of Birmingham, to provide innovative wraparound services to all of the households that will be served.
