What do you need to start seriously looking at apartments?
1. Always bring 2 forms of ID.
2. Always bring your last two pay stubs and address information/contact for your last two employers.
3. Try and bring all roommates with you.
4. Try and bring the information for your current and one past landlord or apartment complex (where you live now and previously)
5. Try and bring your car and tag information (make, model, color, tag number)
6. Have access to at least $150 for application fees. Even "move in specials" are $99.00...
7. Have access to 1/2 to a full month's rent as a deposit.
8. Know your credit score and any issues that may be on it. If there is an issue with rental history (owe money or had an eviction), TAKE CARE OF IT AND HAVE PROOF IT'S TAKEN CARE OF. Documentation can save the day.
Why have all this? If you see the right apartment for you, it may also be the right apartment for someone else. Actually, chances are it is... But if YOU have all of these things lined up- it will be a snap for your leasing agent to get your completed application in first.
And even if you think you are not "seriously looking"... you are. Because you are looking for a place to live. Don't let that be your second choice because you were not prepared when you saw the right one.
