🚨 Updates in Buncombe County.

At this week's Board of Commissioners meeting, several major initiatives were approved that will shape the future of our community:

🏞️ Helene Recovery: More than $284,000 was awarded to build three flood-resilient, ADA-accessible boat launches at Bent Creek, Glen Bridge, and Hominy Creek, improving river access while strengthening recovery efforts.

🚲 Woodfin Greenways: Two greenway projects along the French Broad River are officially moving forward, creating more opportunities to walk, bike, and connect with the outdoors.

🏭 Economic Growth: Southeastern Container is investing $31 million to expand its Buncombe County facility, bringing 12 new jobs and reinforcing the region's manufacturing sector.

From infrastructure and recreation to jobs and long-term investment, these projects are helping shape what's next for Buncombe County.

North Carolina isn't just growing, it's leading the nation. 🏆

According to CNBC's 2026 Top States for Business, North Carolina ranks #1 in the U.S. for its economy, thanks to a combination of strong job growth, business investment, innovation, and a thriving workforce.

Even more impressive? Three North Carolina cities also landed among the Top 25 Best Economic Cities in America:
📍 Charlotte – A powerhouse for finance, healthcare, and Fortune 500 companies.
📍 Raleigh – One of the nation's fastest-growing tech and innovation hubs.
📍 Durham – A leader in biotech, healthcare, and research-driven industries.

While these cities are helping fuel North Carolina's economic success, the benefits are being felt across the entire state, including right here in Western North Carolina.

For those looking for a place that offers incredible outdoor recreation, a vibrant arts scene, a strong sense of community, and access to one of the country's strongest economies, the Asheville area continues to be one of the best places to call home.

Thinking about making the move? We'd love to help you discover why so many people are choosing North Carolina.

Asheville is back in the national spotlight. 🏔️
Travel + Leisure recently ranked Asheville as the #13 best vacation destination in the U.S., making it the only North Carolina city to crack the top 15.
What makes this recognition even more meaningful is that it comes after the challenges Western North Carolina has faced in recent years. From Hurricane Helene recovery to the resilience of local businesses and residents, Asheville continues to show why people love living here just as much as they love visiting.

🚨 One of Asheville’s oldest shopping centers just sold for nearly $20 million... and what comes next could completely transform the area.
UNC Health has officially purchased the Westgate Shopping Center for just under $20 million and is proposing a new 92-bed hospital, pending approval. The hospital would include an emergency department, intensive care, labor and delivery, cardiology, behavioral health, and several specialty services, bringing a major new healthcare option to Western North Carolina.
The proposal is currently going through North Carolina’s Certificate of Need process, where UNC Health is competing with several other healthcare systems for approval. If it’s approved, this wouldn’t just be a new hospital, it would be one of the largest redevelopment projects Asheville has seen in years, creating jobs, attracting new investment, and potentially increasing demand for nearby housing and businesses.
As real estate professionals, this is exactly the kind of development we pay attention to because projects like this can reshape an entire part of the city over time.
What do you think? Is a hospital the best future for the Westgate property, or would you rather see something else built there? Let us know in the comments.
