Need a Settling-In Survival Plan?
Closing day is stressful enough, but when you are moving with kids it can feel like you are juggling chaos at a whole new level.
While you may be thrilled about moving into your dream home, your kids could be feeling a mix of excitement and nerves.
And if you have more than one child..you know Emmaās needs are completely different from Noahās!
So how do you keep chaos in check and create a positive memory of moving day for everyone?
I recommend 5 tips for tackling the challenge:.
ONE: Involve them. Let each of your kiddos pack their own suitcase or overnight bag with favorite items, like the squishy or blanket they canāt live without. This will give them a role in the move and a sense of ownership. Plus, having their go-to comfort items handy will make the day easier.
TWO: Recruit Reinforcements. Donāt go it alone on moving day. Enlist a BFF or grandparent to keep the kids entertained while you handle the logistics. Plan something special, like a scavenger hunt that leads to your new home. You can even throw in a disposable camera document journey.
THREE: Set Up the Essentials. While the kids are out, focus on getting their spaces ready. Make their beds, set out toothbrushes, hang up towels and leave their favorite bath toys within reach. This way, they walk into a space that feels warm and welcoming.
FOUR: Share a āFirst Mealā Moment. Make your first meal in your new home a family fun event,, even if it is a pizza picnic on the floor. Afterward, let them unpack their suitcases and settle into their new room.
FIVE: End the Day with Comfort. Stick to your kidsā usual bedtime routine, but add something special to mark the occasion. I recommend A World of Things that Wonāt Change to ease jitters and celebrate this new chapter:
Bottom line, with a little extra planning, you can create a day that your family remembers for all the right reasons.
