“The American Dream.” One of last week’s farm visit’s unexpectedly hit a chord with me. A lot of the poultry facilities I’m allowed to visit are owned by individuals who have migrated from various areas of the world in search of something better. Their situations are all quite unique. Their stories, when shared, are inspiring. Several have come through tremendous adversity. Most have an incredible testimony and are quick to credit Our Father God for the opportunity for a better life. No windsong here, I’m just thankful. This picture was a reminder of that for me today. Thankful for such a Good Good Father, a family that always supports me, friendships, the privilege of living in the greatest nation in the world, and the opportunities I’ve been afforded through the blessings of each. Father, “thou holdest me by my right hand”…. please hold our hearts, our minds, our nation and its people together in unity and truth for your glory, in Jesus name!

Traveled over to a Columbus County farm today. Trudged through some thistles to get a shot of this ol beaut. I see this often in my line of work with old forgotten barns. The economic life has long expired… but it’s still standing. I can’t help but get a bit tickled at the way God speaks at times. He meets you right where you’re at. I mentioned the thistles, but not all the thistles were physically evident. Sometimes we deal with things scratching or pricking at our spiritual and mental focus. And friends, I’ve got em. I’m thinking on the things that take our eyes off Jesus. You’ve got em. Your neighbor has em. Your spouse. Your preacher. Your teachers. Your most influential mentor. WE all got em! And most likely, you’ll have a whole new set of them tomorrow in some form or fashion.

Check out the old lean-to shelter though. It’s about all that’s holding that barn up. Not by the poles, but by the trees growing adjacent. How’d they get there? Unexpected grace! I know you’re thinking… “You’re chasing rabbits!” Maybe, but have you ever been sailing smoothly along and then you notice a situation (or function) starts to deteriorate, or you get thrown a curveball, or you just don’t see how you’ll pull through a problem, or a loss… an old sin rears its ugly little head, or you realize you’re about to experience some other board buckling event? God could easily send a carpenter and put you right back into shape… and often times He does. Those folks are usually easy to spot. But, sometimes He sends someone or something different. Like the ol barn, from nature He sent those trees, even before the barn began to lean I imagine. He’s got everything at His disposal… things you don’t even see coming, or understand why things are pushing you in a certain direction. Let’s trust Him and His unexpected Grace!

He promises in Philippians 4 that He’ll supply every need of ours according to His riches in glory in Christ. Get that, according to His riches. In other words, by His devices… you know… those limitless ones.

🎶 “He’s still working on me… to make me what I ought to be….” 🎶

Scrolling through last week’s photos and I was directed to Psalm 50… reminding me that The Mighty God holds ownership over all… He lacks for nothing… He kindly and graciously stewards over every living thing… His Divine Providence not only includes “the cattle upon a thousand hills”, but ME too. Worship Him with me today my friends… He is so so good! Thank you Father for the reminder… thank you for beauty in your creation… thank you for your Mighty Hands… and thank you that through your mercy in Jesus we are granted a place of comfort and assurance in both today!

With little time to spare, I just had to swing by this jewel for a few minutes while working up in Wilson County this week. The kind gate keeper let me know tours were available on Fridays and Saturdays, and he himself performed various blacksmithing demonstrations every other weekend on site. Johnston and Wilson Counties both carry a rich history of agriculture, with significant ties rooted in the to***co industry. Wilson once carrying the title as the “world’s largest to***co market”. Putting this one on the list for a return visit.

A few things came to mind while appraising this beautiful swamp tract the other day. But in consideration of the reputation of some of the locals…. Those thoughts were “drowned out” by the refrain and a few of the lyrics of an 80’s classic song in my head…. Turn around, bright eyes!

Working way off the road in Jones County this week. The farm was in close proximity to the Foscue Plantation House museum pictured here. Cant be certain, but I can only imagine some of the same dirt on my flip flops passed through the toes of children that darted these grounds and dared the trail between this stately home and the nearby Trent river.

Had the privilege to appraise a farm in Montgomery County last week. Took a side road in hunt of some lunch and couldn’t resist the opportunity to pay homage to the folks of the Mississippian Period. Fascinating to observe their ingenuity, agriculture, communal & spiritual practices.

Todays appraisal adventure brings us to the long lost town of Ezra, located in Johnston County NC. Long gone are the days of the post office, blacksmith shop, and storefronts of local commerce and trade. All that remains are the judge’s house (~1840), the town stable, a couple of commodity storage barns, and a reminant of the once well-traveled main dirt road. Alive still are the memories shared along a country road. Thanks to the owner for painting such a vivid picture and allowing me to share in the experience.
