Traveled over to a Columbus County farm today. Trudged through some thistles to get a shot of this ol beaut. I see this often in my line of work with old forgotten barns. The economic life has long expired… but it’s still standing. I can’t help but get a bit tickled at the way God speaks at times. He meets you right where you’re at. I mentioned the thistles, but not all the thistles were physically evident. Sometimes we deal with things scratching or pricking at our spiritual and mental focus. And friends, I’ve got em. I’m thinking on the things that take our eyes off Jesus. You’ve got em. Your neighbor has em. Your spouse. Your preacher. Your teachers. Your most influential mentor. WE all got em! And most likely, you’ll have a whole new set of them tomorrow in some form or fashion.
Check out the old lean-to shelter though. It’s about all that’s holding that barn up. Not by the poles, but by the trees growing adjacent. How’d they get there? Unexpected grace! I know you’re thinking… “You’re chasing rabbits!” Maybe, but have you ever been sailing smoothly along and then you notice a situation (or function) starts to deteriorate, or you get thrown a curveball, or you just don’t see how you’ll pull through a problem, or a loss… an old sin rears its ugly little head, or you realize you’re about to experience some other board buckling event? God could easily send a carpenter and put you right back into shape… and often times He does. Those folks are usually easy to spot. But, sometimes He sends someone or something different. Like the ol barn, from nature He sent those trees, even before the barn began to lean I imagine. He’s got everything at His disposal… things you don’t even see coming, or understand why things are pushing you in a certain direction. Let’s trust Him and His unexpected Grace!
He promises in Philippians 4 that He’ll supply every need of ours according to His riches in glory in Christ. Get that, according to His riches. In other words, by His devices… you know… those limitless ones.
