The guy behind the scenes… ❤️

If you've stayed with us, you've probably seen the pretty side—the creek, the cozy cottages, the fire pits, the freshly remodeled rooms and all those little touches we try so hard to get right.

What you probably haven't seen is this guy.

For six years, Mark has been the one behind the scenes doing a whole lot of the not-so-pretty stuff that keeps Creekside to Seaside going.

He's repaired plumbing, installed lights and bathroom vanities, assembled more furniture than he'd probably care to remember, kept our sewer system running, cleaned up after floods, pulled fallen trees and debris out of the creek, landscaped, built, fixed, hauled, dug…and crawled into places I certainly wasn't going. 😂

And somehow, there's usually a dog or two supervising the job.

When something breaks, I usually say, “Mark…”
And before long, he's figuring out how to fix it.

Running vacation rentals isn't always decorating rooms, taking pretty pictures and welcoming guests. There's a whole other side that most people never see.

This is a little glimpse of ours.

So today, I'm giving some very well-deserved credit to the maintenance man, plumber, landscaper, builder, furniture assembler, problem solver and all-around “Mark, can you come look at this?” guy behind Creekside to Seaside Vacations.

I couldn't do this without you. ❤️

Six years ago, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. 😂

As we get ready to celebrate 6 years of owning our little cottages on Butternut Creek, we started thinking about a few things we've learned along the way…

6 things we've ve learned in 6 years:

1. There is no such thing as “just one little renovation.” 😂

2. You can move the same chair, picture or lamp five times…and somehow the sixth spot is the spot.

3. You’re never really finished. There’s always something to paint, fix, replace, fluff or dream up next.

4. The things you think guests will notice aren’t always the things they remember. Sometimes it’s the comfy bed, sitting beside the creek, or one little thoughtful touchs.

5. Hospitality is so much more than providing a place to sleep. It’s knowing that birthdays, anniversaries, family weekends, quiet getaways and sometimes much-needed escapes are happening inside those walls. ❤️

6. And the biggest one — the people have been the very best part. The guests who come back year after year, the friendships we’ve made, and everyone who has followed along and cheered us on.

We’ve learned a LOT in six years…and I’m pretty sure we’re still learning. 😊
