🌧️ CLEANING UP AFTER THE STORMS? HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you’re dealing with flooding or other damage from this week’s storms, the City is providing some additional help with cleanup.

Residents normally receive one bucket of curbside bulk collection at no charge each week, with a $30 fee for each additional bucket. For bulk materials resulting from documented storm or flood damage, the City will waive those additional $30 bucket fees.

To qualify, report your storm or flood damage through the myBloomington online portal - https://www.bloomingtonil.gov/community/report-a-concern or downloading the myBloomington mobile app.

ONLY REPORTED DAMAGE THROUGH THE PORTAL OR APP WILL HAVE THE FEES WAIVED.

Able to haul your brush and limbs yourself? The Citizen Convenience Center has extended hours:

➡️ Saturday: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
➡️ Sunday: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
➡️ Monday: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Yes, Monday too! The Center is normally closed Mondays.)

With the significant amount of storm debris across Bloomington, curbside collection may take longer than usual. We appreciate your patience as crews work through the increased volume while continuing cleanup efforts across the city.

Regular bulk collection and Citizen Convenience Center guidelines still apply.

Storm Cleanup Reminder

As cleanup continues, please keep brush and tree debris separate from bulk items when placing materials at the curb.

Branches, limbs and other vegetative debris should be placed in a separate pile from furniture, construction materials and other bulk items. Mixing the two slows down collection because different crews and equipment are used to pick them up.

A little separation at the curb can make a big difference in helping our crews move through Bloomington as efficiently as possible.

Thank you for helping us keep the cleanup moving!

From Peyton Johnson
Hi there!
I live on East Jackson St. Over the last few years, I have been developing my front yard into a microprairie/pollinator pocket to benefit the native wildlife and pollinators in our area. As many of you may know, 99.9% of prairie that originally existed in Illinois is now gone, with only 2,300-2,600 acres remaining.
It is more important than ever to plant native plants to support native pollinators and wildlife, which provide an invaluable service to our ecosystem.

Last year, I was able to collect a large number of seed from several species in my yard, and wanted to offer them up to anyone interested in giving a bit back to the local ecosystem.

My yard includes a sign with a QR code that will direct you to Prairie Moon Nursery, a partner of The Xerces Society, which works to educate and restore pollinator habitat worldwide. This code will lead you to instructions on how to plant your own pollinator habitat! It has been a joyous project for me, and I see more and more plants, pollinators, and insects as the days and months pass by.

I will list the species I have seed available below. Of course, everything in my yard is organic, never treated with chemicals, and is holistically managed. Please feel free to contact me for more information!

Seeds Available
-Black Eyed Susan
-Brown Eyed Susan
-Great Blue Lobelia
- Obedient Plant
- Pasture Thistle
- Stiff Goldenrod
- Yellow Coneflower
