🚨🏡 Zillow vs. MRED Drama Explained 🏡🚨

In case you haven’t heard… there’s currently a pretty big feud happening in the real estate world between Zillow and MRED (our local MLS system here in Illinois).

For those who don’t know:
MRED is where Realtors officially list properties first. From there, listings “flow out” to 3rd party sites like Zillow, Trulia, Realtor.com, Homes.com, Redfin, etc.

Welllll… apparently Zillow wasn’t exactly following the licensing agreements it had in place with MRED. 😅

MRED notified Zillow about the issue… and Zillow responded with a lawsuit. 😂🍿

According to MRED, this entire situation started over NINE listings. Yes… 9. 🙄😂 To put this into perspective, there are roughly 43,000 ACTIVE listings currently in the IL market right now...

As a result, MRED has currently stopped sending listings to Zillow & Trulia.

So what does that mean for buyers and sellers?
Honestly… not nearly as dramatic as the headlines make it sound .

❌ Zillow is NOT the MLS.
❌ Zillow is NOT the only place to search for homes.
❌ Your home did not disappear from the internet forever. 😂

If you’re connected with a local Realtor who uses MRED, you can still:
✅ Get listings sent directly to your email the SECOND they hit the market
✅ Access private network / coming soon listings
✅ See properties before many buyers scrolling Zillow even know they exist

And buyers can still browse homes on:
