🚨 BLOOMSBURG BLOCK PARTY WEEKEND PSA 🚨
It’s Block Party Weekend — That magical time of year when colorful gallon jugs start appearing all over town.
Let’s discuss the beloved BORG
(Blackout Rage Gallon, for those unfamiliar).
For some reason, people keep looking at a gallon jug full of liquor, flavoring, electrolytes, and regret and think:
“Yes. This seems safe and reasonable.”
Spoiler:
It’s not.
A BORG is not “just a mixed drink.”
It’s a portable and deceptively potent jug designed to help you lose your phone, your shoes, your wallet, and possibly consciousness — often in that order.
Typical BORGs contain upwards of a fifth (750ml) of liquor, that’s about 16 shots.
A few reminders before Block Party weekend kicks off:
🚫 If you are under 21:
No, the giant gallon jug with a funny name does not make underage drinking legal.
Neither does saying:
• “But it’s Block Party…”
• “Everybody does it…”
• “It’s mostly water…”
We assure you, the judge will not be moved, so do not BORG around and find out.
🍺 If you are 21 or older:
You are still not immune from making poor decisions.
Do not furnish alcohol to minors.
Yards, alleys, and sides of houses are not bathrooms, use the designated restrooms.
🚗 And for everyone:
If you’ve been drinking, do not drive.
Not your car.
Not your friend’s car.
Not “just down the street.”
Not because you “feel okay.”
You are not just risking your own safety and your passenger’s. You are volunteering for charges, towing fees, insurance hikes, and a conversation you definitely don’t want with us.
If your friend:
• can’t stay awake
• is throwing up repeatedly
• is confused, unresponsive, or barely breathing
🚑 That is not “just being drunk.” That is an emergency. Call 911.
Pennsylvania’s Medical Amnesty Law grants protections for students and generally protects them from charges if they call to request help for someone with alcohol poisoning and stay with them until help arrives.
💡 Safety Tips:
• Plan your ride home before you go out
• Stay with friends and look out for one another
• Never get in a car with an impaired driver
• If you see someone about to drive impaired, say something
Here’s your official Block Party checklist:
✔️ Don’t provide alcohol to anyone under 21
✔️ Drink Plenty of water before, during, and after
✔️ Don’t leave your friends alone
✔️ Don’t assume “sleeping it off” fixes alcohol poisoning
✔️ Don’t turn a party into a medical emergency or criminal investigation
So enjoy the weekend.
Have fun.
Make questionable fashion choices if you must.
