Building and development are not new to me. My husband, a developer in Fannin county for 38 years, has provided me with a great deal of knowledge regarding building/developing. After 30 years as an elementary school teacher I retired from the Fannin County school system. I greatly enjoyed helping children reach their goals and here I am now helping adults reach their dreams! When I am not working, I love spending time with my family, cooking, exercising, and jeeping in our beautiful mountains. As a RE/MAX® agent, I’m dedicated to helping my clients find the home of their dreams. Since I have lived in Blue Ridge, Georgia for most of my life, I know the surrounding areas extremely well. 🚗🌧️ DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN & FLASH FLOODS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 🌧️🚗

Severe weather and heavy rain are hitting our area this weekend! If you must hit the roads, safety comes first. Here are essential tips to keep you and your family safe when driving through heavy downpours and potential flooding:

🌊 1. The #1 Rule: Turn Around, Don’t Drown!
Never drive through flooded roads or standing water. It's almost impossible to judge how deep the water is or if the road underneath has washed away!

🛑 6 inches of moving water can knock you off your feet or stall your car.

🚗 12 inches (1 foot) of water can float small vehicles and SUVs.

🚚 24 inches (2 feet) of rushing water can carry away heavy trucks!

🚘 2. Crucial Driving Adjustments
🐢 Slow Down: Reduce your speed well below the limit to avoid hydroplaning.

❌ Turn OFF Cruise Control: Using cruise control on wet roads can cause your tires to lose traction and spin out!

💡 Turn ON Low-Beam Headlights: Increase your visibility to others (avoid high beams, which reflect off the rain).

↔️ Increase Following Distance: Double your distance behind the car in front of you—stopping takes much longer on wet pavement!

🛣️ Drive in the Middle Lane: Water collects near the edges of the road, so stick to the center lanes when safe.

⚠️ What to Do in an Emergency
If you hydroplane: Stay calm! Ease off the gas, DO NOT slam on the brakes, and keep the steering wheel straight until you regain traction.

If your car stalls in rising water: Abandon the vehicle immediately if safe to do so and seek higher ground.
