This is a real hidden gem in the mountains of Northern Georgia. It's approximately a two hour drive from Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) airport. There are lots of different cabins available for rental, but we selected the "Here For The Views" cabin. I was thoroughly impressed with the attention to detail the community places on a positive experience for visitors. In this day and age, it's very difficult to find. For starters, the cabin is nestled in a forested area which is very private and serene. Second, the amenities are well organized and high quality. All the cookware in the home is top notch, the beds are comfortable and contain high quality linens, the bathrooms are large, water pressure is great... basically everything met or exceeded our expectations. For the price point, it would be hard to find another option in the area that not only has the location, but has the personal touch that the rental properties in the Big Canoe community possess. We are already planning our next visit to partake in some of the activities we weren't able to do on this quick trip. There is a marina where you can rent pontoon boats, you can purchase a one-day fishing license and fish in a lake that's stocked with trout, there are tennis and pickleball courts, three 9-hole golf courses, and shops and dining both inside and just outside the community. Lowe's grocery store is a quick 20 minute drive, and be sure to have a meal at Lucky Hare if you get the opportunity. Also, Eagle's Nest is a short drive (Mt. Oglethorpe) which was formerly the Southern Terminus of the Appalachian Trail.
Kudos to all the people of Big Canoe who went above and beyond to welcome us into their community. Even the person at the guard station was super friendly, provided us with maps and instructions, and gave us a sense she was truly excited for us to be there.
