What our soul craves: cooler air, golden light through the live oaks, and a long lunch in Old Town Bluffton. 🍂

Today our team traded the conference room for a fall picnic in the park, with lunch from Downtown Deli and a season’s worth of ideas on the table. Slow afternoons like this are part of everyday life in Bluffton, and one of the many reasons people choose to call the Lowcountry home.

We joined the opening night celebration hosted by Salt Marsh Media and Wednesday in Heels, and it was one of the most charming evenings we’ve spent on the island. The theater was filled with witches in costume, the energy was electric, and midnight margaritas were flowing. Guests chose between the classic Salt Marsh Margarita and the spicy Wednesday in Jalapeños, and both were a hit.

What we love most is Park Plaza Cinema itself. It’s cozy, welcoming, and full of personality, and the staff treats every guest like a neighbor. For Hilton Head Island and Bluffton residents, it’s our favorite place to catch a movie, and we can’t recommend it enough.

As for the film, we loved every minute and can’t wait for you to see it. Practical Magic 2 is now playing at Park Plaza Cinema, so gather your favorite people and make a night of it.

Nights like this are a big part of why so many people fall in love with Lowcountry living. ✨

Fall does not arrive here all at once. It negotiates. September still runs warm, but the light changes first, longer and lower and kinder across the marsh. Then the grass goes gold. Then one morning the porch is cool enough to sit on before coffee.

This is the season Bluffton and Hilton Head Island do best. Pumpkins on a tailgate in seventy degree weather. Spanish moss standing in for changing leaves. A simmer pot going with the windows still open. Sunsets over the water that hold on longer than they should.

Sweater weather is more of a suggestion around here. Nobody seems to mind.

The boardwalks, the oaks, the marsh turning every color it has. Happy ’ber months, Lowcountry. We have been waiting on you.

Summer in the Lowcountry never announces that it’s leaving.

It just softens.

August in Bluffton was iced coffee sweating in your hand before ten. The light over the May River going gold a little earlier. The marsh grass turning that heavy, tired green.

August was the boardwalk at golden hour and the tide doing whatever it wanted. It was porches full of people doing absolutely nothing, beautifully. It was heat you complained about all month and will miss by the first cool morning.

We’ll take the slower evenings and the cooler air. But we’re keeping this one 🤍

Anyone can pull comps in Bluffton and Hilton Head Island. Fewer people can tell you which neighborhood gets the good evening light, which beach access has parking that will not ruin your morning, or which oyster roast is worth the drive.
