New construction doesn't always mean defect-free.

Last week during a new construction inspection, we discovered an interior wall that was more than 1.5 inches out of square—well beyond acceptable SCLLR construction tolerances.

After further evaluation, the issue was caused by a poorly placed anchor bolt and wall plate.

This is a great reminder that even brand-new homes can have installation errors hidden behind fresh paint and new finishes. A municipal code inspection and a professional home inspection serve different purposes, and one does not replace the other.

A thorough pre-closing inspection helps identify issues like these before they become the homeowner's responsibility.

During a recent home inspection, we discovered extensive termite damage to the structural framing supporting this screened pool enclosure. Although the damage wasn't immediately obvious, a closer inspection revealed that the deterioration had significantly weakened the structure, leaving the enclosure at risk of partial or complete failure.

This is exactly why a professional home inspection is so important. Many significant defects aren't obvious during a typical walkthrough and can result in costly repairs—or even create a safety hazard.

A new recall has been issued by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission!!

Be on the lookout for the DuraTract Flex Gas Connector; it has been recalled due to a high probability of failure, including gas leaks.

These connectors are commonly found on gas appliances, including furnaces, water heaters, and kitchen appliances.

Consumers should stop using the recalled DuraTrac stainless steel gas connectors immediately and contact DuraTrac for a full refund.

A recent client thought they were purchasing a home with a "New Roof", per the property description. While the roof was certainly brand new, apparently so was the installer. It was one of the worst installations we have ever seen; (this roof would have struggled to shed water from a water hose). It was evaluated by a QUALIFIED third-party licensed roofer who also agreed that due to poor installation, the home needed a total roof replacement. After a quick negotiation, the realtor was able to secure his clients a brand-new roof.
