Indigenous Peoples’ Day | Honoring the Lowcountry’s First People

Here in the Lowcountry, we live among beautiful waterways, marshes, forests, and coastal landscapes that have been home to Indigenous peoples for thousands of years. Personally, I honor the Indigenous peoples who have been stewards of these lands and waters, caring for the natural resources that sustain their communities and understanding the importance of living in balance with the environment. Their knowledge of the land, waterways, wildlife, and seasons continues to remind us of the responsibility we all share to protect and preserve the places we call home.

In the spirit of those that come from the North, South, East and West...and in gratitude for the Earth, Sky, Water and Fire...Today, we remember. We learn. We honor. We protect.
