The government shutdown is wreaking havoc on many. Here is a link to some free resources in Palm Beach County, Florida - assistance for food, utilities, rent, senior, mental health, etc. If you have non-perishables that you can donate to Boca Helping Hands, but don’t have time, please reach out to me. Today I came home to a family of 3 on bicycles picking my coconuts. It was fine - I just asked them to ask next time (not because I care, but if someone else lived here, they might care a lot). I also stopped by Boca Helping Hands (a local food bank) to ask them what help they need since SNAP/EBT recipients aren’t getting anything as long as the government is shut down. Maribelle, with BHH, reminded me that it’s not just people on food assistance, it’s all federal employees. This is a time that “we the people” need to step up to the plate and help our “neighbors.” If anyone in the Southeast Florida area (within a reasonable distance) has non-perishable food items that they would like to donate to Boca Helping Hands, but don’t have time to shop, drop it off, etc, please reach out and I will pick it up for delivery. If you are comfortable sending money to me, I am planning to make a shopping trip to Costco and Aldi early next week. I will send you a copy of the receipt and a picture of it being delivered to the BHH. I encourage everyone to reach out to your local food bank and see how you can help, if you have the means.
