7/27/20 Jeanine's Monday Minute
Some of you may have read my post yesterday in Boerne Remember When fb page hosted by my cousin, Wayne Henson. It is a wonderful page where people can post old photos and write stories about family and events that happened in Boerne. If you are not already a member and you want to learn more about Boerne, then I encourage you to ask to become a member of the fb page, Boerne Remember When. I had posted some information that I knew about Olivia de Havilland. Olivia de Havilland was a remarkable woman, and I encourage you to Google her. She did a lot of good work for actors' rights, and the De Havilland Decision was named after her winning a lawsuit against Warner Bros. in 1941.. I'll repost it here. I corrected a few statements that I had made in yesterday's post. There is so much history in Boerne. I'm going to get out all of my Boerne and Kendall County History books that we have purchased through the years and post some more interesting Boerne history soon. I hope you received some rain! Y'all have a great week!
7/26/2020 Today, Olivia de Havilland dies at 104 years old. She was, of course, in Gone With The Wind. But, did you also know that she had ties to Boerne? In the 1930's, she owned what is now the Guadalupe River Ranch. You can Google this for more history. This Ranch on the Guadalupe River just off FM 474, has gone through a lot of transition. I believe that in the 70's-90's, it was called Golden Fawn, with a pretty wrought iron entry that said "Golden Fawn". For a time, there were also small parcels sold, but that did not work out, and all the small lots were purchased back. When I first became a Realtor in the early 2000's, the real estate office that I worked at, Bradfield Properties, had at least one celebration there (when it was a restaurant). The restaurant was truly a rustic, beautiful facility that overlooked the Guadalupe River. Unfortunately, it was sort of on the decline at the time. I remember in 1980, when I was a teller at Boerne State Bank, there was a very colorful person, named Walter Starcke, who owned part of the property. He would always come into the lobby...boy was he an eccentric character. He had been an Off-Broadway Director/Producer in his day. The magnificent restaurant (formerly the ranch home that had been built in 1929) recently burned to the ground.
