Today we said goodbye to sweet Dottie (17 or 18) and Mica (20). These 2 were furever friends to my kids and provided years of love and memories. Dottie was dumped at our house at around 5 weeks. It was a cold, stormy day when Cora spotted a tiny puppy under our car, there’s no way she could have walked there. She was instantly loved by all. The world’s fastest dog, she could out juke any person or dog and has run more miles than anyone can imagine. On the run, she was fearless and I always worried that she would snap a leg as she was bounding with reckless abandon. She was sweet beyond words and as Mahra’s best friend, often found sleeping under the covers with her bestie.
Mica was adopted w/ his 2 brothers from a trash dumpster behind a restaurant in Emmett. Independent and obviously so smart, he outlasted every cat we owned (and there were a lot!). He no doubt dodged mountain lions, coyotes, foxes, etc.. A supreme hunter (I can still picture his kill laden swagger coming down the driveway)and a somewhat friendly barn cat, he grew more affectionate as he aged..almost always kneading his big claws into Caden while sharing his bed w/ Chaco.
Today I walk through memories of another chapter, thankful that 3/4 kids were able to stop by yesterday and oh so grateful that Mahra was there today. Losing a pet is never easy and 2 was tough. This said, it was time and the morning couldn’t have been more peaceful in their backyard oasis. These 2 had never been to the vet, other than their initial visits 20ish years ago, so we are appreciative of the services that allowed them to peacefully pass on their own turf and with their people.
