Corkscrew Road Widening Phase 2 update from Lee County on June 5, 2026
Drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists are urged to use extra caution when traveling through the work zone. Starting Friday, June 5, the entrance to Corkscrew Shores at Wayside Lane will close for approximately four days, during which motorists must enter and exit the community through the main entrance.
After paving has been completed at both of the Corkscrew Shores entrances, crews will stripe the newly constructed lanes on Corkscrew Road during the nighttime/overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
After striping is completed, eastbound and westbound traffic will shift to the new lanes on the south side of Corkscrew Road, from just west of Wayside Lane to east of the Corkscrew Shores main entrance, at which point all traffic will be on the new lanes from just west of Wayside Lane to just east of Alico Road. On Sunday, June 7, during the nighttime/overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., motorists should expect lane closures on Corkscrew Road while crews work on drainage. Flaggers will be onsite to assist motorists. Please drive with caution.
Crews will be constructing a gravity wall on the north side of Corkscrew Road, starting at Alico Road and moving to the west. Please be aware that concrete trucks may be entering and leaving the roadway in this area.
Crews will be installing drainage throughout the project area on Corkscrew Road and Alico Road. Motorists should expect trucks and equipment to be moving materials throughout the project.
Motorists should drive with caution and expect intermittent daytime flagging as road crews are performing earthwork up to the shoulders of the road on Corkscrew Road and Alico Road, within the project limits. Please be aware that trucks may be entering and leaving the roadway.
Crews will be installing utility conduits, light pole bases and light poles on the north side of Corkscrew Road from Wayside Lane to Alico Road.
Sidewalks are closed in areas throughout the project as the contractor performs underground work. The work activities above are scheduled to occur, however unforeseen underground conditions and weather may affect this schedule.
Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway. Due to additional work required by Lee County Utilities, as well as delays in utility relocations by FPL and Lumen, the project completion is expected end of 2026. Project cost is approximately $27 M. The contractor is Bergeron Land Development, Inc.
