Today's Idaho Workforce Housing Network Call highlighted the incredible impact that faith-based organizations can have in addressing Idaho's housing challenges.

We heard inspiring examples of churches and faith communities partnering to create and preserve affordable housing that aligns with their missions and values. From affordable senior housing and workforce housing to supporting veterans and young adults transitioning out of foster care, these projects demonstrate how underutilized land and facilities can become life-changing community assets.

Faith-based organizations often hold valuable land and property assets that can become part of the housing solution. Through innovative partnerships, YIGBY has helped churches and nonprofits transform underutilized properties into affordable homes and thriving communities across Idaho.

Joe highlighted several inspiring projects, including:

✅ Taft Homes – Affordable homes built on church-owned land through a long-term partnership with Collister United Methodist Church.

✅ King of Glory – A model for creating new housing opportunities using church property.

✅ Golden Glow Tower – Preservation of a 64-unit senior housing community originally developed by members of First Christian Church.

✅ Trinity New Hope – A church-led neighborhood creating long-term affordable housing and future homeownership opportunities.

✅ Sycamore Commons – Adaptive reuse of a former skilled nursing facility that will ultimately provide 83 affordable homes.

Projects shared from around Idaho showed that faith communities are uniquely positioned to be part of the housing solution through partnerships, long-term stewardship, and a commitment to serving their neighbors. Whether it's creating homes for seniors on fixed incomes, housing for veterans, or stable living opportunities for students and young adults aging out of foster care, these efforts are making a real difference.

The common thread throughout the discussion was simple: when communities come together with a shared purpose, innovative housing solutions become possible.
