For today's "Thirst for The Word Thursday” (("Fun with The Word Friday")) we talk about a couple ways to glorify and serve Jesus...

Matthew 20:27-28
27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Romans 12:9-13
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Jesus set the example for us when He came to the world, not to be served, but to serve. It is one of the greatest ways to show love to one another…to simply serve. He came to set the example and to provide His perfect life as payment for the sins we have and will commit! He served us in the ultimate way as the example. He calls us to be kind and love our brothers and sisters. To show love to others in His name gives Him the glory! When we are able to be patient in our trials and tribulations it glorifies Him. When we are happy in our hope rather than anxious it glorifies Him. When we pray ceaselessly and without boundaries it glorifies Him. Sharing what we have with those in need glorifies Him. These are all ways that we can serve our Father God, who still is serving us!

Father, I thank you that you came, not to be served, but to serve. What an amazing Father we have that would do such a thing! Thank you for serving us in the ultimate way, by paying the price for our sins when you knew no sin. Thank you for setting us free from the consequence of death by taking our place at the cross. You took it all so that we don’t have to take any of it. When our fleshly lives are complete, we thank you that we get to spend eternity in heaven by your side! Thank you Father for all of it! In Jesus’ name we pray…Amen.

For today's "Thirst for The Word Thursday” we look into faith...

Matthew 15:21-28
21 Leaving that place, Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.”
23 Jesus did not answer a word. So his disciples came to him and urged him, “Send her away, for she keeps crying out after us.”
24 He answered, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.”
25 The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
26 He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
27 “Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
28 Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.”And her daughter was healed at that moment.

Matthew 17:14-21
14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him.15 “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”
17 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.
19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” [21]

It is so amazing to have Jesus be able to stand in for us when our faith is struggling and take care of our needs. Time and time again, Jesus proved that it didn’t matter whether there is an abundance of faith, or the smallest bit of faith, that we are going to be taken care of by HIS faith! All it takes is having faith as small as a mustard seed to move mountains. It’s so great that His grace expands beyond the abilities of our ineptitude. Sometimes we find ourselves struggling in our lives and our faith kind of waivers. Our God is so amazing that He already saw this coming and made sure that our faith level wasn’t the deciding factor of His blessing and His grace!

Jesus, I thank you for standing in for me when I am struggling. When my faith tank is running on empty for one reason or another, and the faith gas prices are skyrocketing, I have the unlimited credit of your blood that has paid for every ounce I will ever need! Father, you sent your Son to the cross to pay for this need, knowing that it would arise. I thank you that my faith doesn’t rely on my actions, but what Jesus already has done at the cross! It’s in His name I pray…Amen!

For today's "Thirst for The Word Thursday” we check out something possibly a little sensitive in today’s world. We look at “the truth”...

John 8:31-38
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word. 38 I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you are doing what you have heard from your father.”

In todays world, it appears the truth is a matter of perspective. One person’s ’truth’ seems to vary from the next, and that one’s from the next, and so on. The only way there can be a unification of the actual Truth is through holding to the teachings of Jesus. He clearly tells us that this is the only way to know the truth and to be truly set free. Those who abide in their own versions of truth are bound to the sin that invokes. There is only one truth and that truth comes from Jesus.

Now, I want to make something abundantly clear…this does NOT mean that we are to judge those who are living in sin. That is NOT our place. Our place is to love our neighbor. You can hold Jesus’ truth (The Truth) in your heart and still love someone who is not living in the truth of Jesus. The hope is that through sharing the love of Jesus, that truth shines through the cloudiness of the perspective of that individual’s truth. It hurts my heart to see those who claim to love the Father, say just the meanest and nastiest things about those who are struggling with the truth…who may be on the fence…or even those completely on the other side of the fence. Our calling is to try to bring them to the truth through love and grace.

Lord, we thank you for Jesus who came to this world to live as the one and only truth. We thank you that the burden of judging is not on us, but ours is to love and to show compassion. Lord we thank you that you see through our sins. You see through our muck and see the person we are in You! Thank you for loving me so much, that you took all of my sins to the cross and have set me free. Thank you for removing the penalty of death from my life, Lord. Thank you for living that perfect path for me to look up to, and thank you for forgiving me every time I stray! I pray that The Truth shines through in this world, not through hatred and fighting, but through love and grace. It’s in your Son’s blessed and holy name I pray, Amen.

For the latest (like two days late) "Thirst for The Word Thursday" we will look at some of what the Bible says about blessings.

Philippians 4:19
“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus."

James 1:17
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

Philippians 2:13
“for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

Malachi 3:10
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”

Not only does our Father in heaven provide for us and our every need, but he loves to go above and beyond. He has provided His Son at the cross for our sins, and defeated death for us in the process. Not only that, He has given us the Holy Spirit which emanates from us and can be seen in those moments where we are a blessing in others’ lives. Our God stands steady and never deviates from the path of love. He blesses us in ways we don’t even realize and in ways we can’t even imagine. From the small things we take for granted…our clothes, our breathing, that one time someone made you smile…through those big things…our salvation, overcoming illness, having those we love and those who love us.

Father, we thank you. We thank you that you have provides ALL the things for us whether it be big or small. We thank you that you give us a spirit of loving and passing on those blessings. We thank you that in those moments we can feel your love flowing from you, through us, to others. We thank you that we also get to receive that from others. We thank you that you provide for our every need even when we don’t see you doing it. We thank you that it doesn’t depend on our faith, but your’s, and we thank you that YOUR faith is perfect and unwavering! It was shown in your Son, Jesus…and it’s in His blessed and holy name we pray…Amen.

For today's "Thirst for The Word Thursday" we will look at some of what the Bible says about what our Father in Heaven thinks of us.

Matthew 10:29-31
“[29] Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. [30] And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. [31] So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Romans 8:28-39
“[28] And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. [29] For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. [30] And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
[31] What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? [32] He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? [33] Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. [34] Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. [35] Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? [36] As it is written:

“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
[37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.[38] For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, [39] neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

John 3:16-17
“[16] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

God has placed it on my heart lately to really be listening to His truth. Part of this resides in having what I have heard called and like to call a “Vertical Perspective” rather than a “Horizontal Perspective”. Sometimes we get so consumed with what the world says we are or what the world says about Christians, that we lose focus of what Jesus calls us to do. We get angry and react rather than maintaining our focus on Him. See, when we focus our energy on what Jesus wants, the noise of the world just kind of dwindles into the background. If the world says you’re ugly, remember that you are made in God’s image. If the world faults you, remember that God sent his only Son to the cross for you to be saved and NOT CONDEMNED. If you feel like you are useless, remember that God called you accord to His purpose! When you feel the world is against you, remember that Jesus is for you!

Father, I speak the name of Jesus over every person in this world that they come to know you and through knowing you, they come to truly know themselves! I pray that they are able to see themselves through your eyes and see that you love us so much that you took all the pain we couldn’t endure, to the cross with you. You took on yourself…for each and every one of us. God I thank you for that working in my life. I pray that it works in everyone’s life and that they accept it. I proclaim that in the name of Jesus! It’s in His blessed and holy name we pray…Amen.
