Homeowners, did you know that although shingle roofs are insurable, an insurance company may not always pay for damage that’s incurred if you’ve not been taking care of your roof?

How will they know if my roof isn’t in the best shape, you may ask. They are employing new surveillance strategies. Drones are one way they’re getting up close and personal with your roof. Some homeowners, including me, have encountered insurance company representatives walking through the house and taking notes.

So, how do you care for your shingle roof?

Keeping your roof free from debris is a key part of roof maintenance. Debris can accumulate on your roof and trap moisture, leading to shingle deterioration. Regularly clean your roof using a soft-bristle broom or a leaf blower. Avoid using pressure washers as they can damage the shingles. Also, get rid of any moss that’s growing on your roof.
