🚨 RENTAL SCAM REMINDER 🚨

Rental scams are getting way too common, especially on Facebook Marketplace, TikTok, Craigslist and other social media platforms. Scammers are taking photos and information from legitimate homes for sale and reposting them as rentals—sometimes at prices that seem too good to pass up.

PLEASE use caution when looking for a rental.

If you find a home advertised for rent and you also see that it’s listed FOR SALE, call the listing Realtor — or a Realtor you know and trust — before sending anyone money, filling out an application, or providing personal information.

Even if you just have a weird feeling about it, CALL US.

You are not wasting our time. Seriously. We would much rather spend five minutes checking something out for you than find out afterward that someone lost hundreds or thousands of dollars to a scam.

A few major red flags:
• They want a deposit, application fee or first month’s rent before you’ve seen the property.
• They won’t meet you at the property or give you access to see the inside.
• They have an excuse for why they’re “out of town” and can’t show it.
• The rent seems unusually low for the home.
• They pressure you to send money quickly so you “don’t lose it.”
• They ask for payment through Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, gift cards, crypto, etc.
• The home is actively listed for sale, but the person advertising it for rent has no connection to the owner or listing.

And Realtors—we want to know when our listings are being used in scams, too. You’re helping us protect our sellers, report fraudulent posts and hopefully prevent someone else from becoming a victim.

When in doubt, verify before you pay. 🏡
