Before delivery apps, there were horses. 144 of them, stabled five floors high on Harrison Avenue in Boston's South End - the engine behind Jordan Marsh's legendary retail empire. Today that building is Jordan Lofts, one of Boston's most stunning adaptive reuse projects. And we're proud to call it one of ours. The Stable That Made Home Delivery Modern: We think of home delivery as a modern convenience, when it actually began in Boston with horses, and those horses lived at 477 Harrison Avenue in the South End. If you walk past the building today, the ornate brickwork might surprise you.

Our latest Historic Roots to Modern Living feature takes a closer look at 1134 Washington Street in Boston’s South End. A building shaped by centuries of change.

Often known today as Harry the Greek Lofts, this address traces its evolution from the historic Boston Neck to neighborhood retail, artist studios, and modern loft living. It’s a strong example of how thoughtful reuse allows history, creativity, and everyday life to coexist.

As of January, Urban Property Management is proud to be managing 45–55 W. Broadway in South Boston.

Originally built in 1844 as the Church of Saints Peter & Paul and constructed by F. A. Norcross (architect Gridley J. F. Bryant), this historic property was later thoughtfully converted into residences, preserving its architectural character while adapting it for modern living.

We’re honored to support the residents and care for this unique South Boston landmark.
