Last year at Georgetowne Homes in Hyde Park, MA, residents came together with Boston City Councilor Enrique Pepen’s office to advocate for improved bus service. At the time, the community's closest route operated as part of a combined line, limiting evening service and making it difficult for many residents to return home from work, school, and other essential activities. Through sustained advocacy, collaboration, and support from the Georgetowne team, the MBTA heard residents’ voices. As of April, bus service has been expanded, providing more reliable and accessible transportation for the community. Councilor Pepen returned to Georgetowne Homes to celebrate this milestone with residents and continue the conversation around community needs. This achievement reflects the power of resident leadership, strong local partnerships, and the ongoing work of Beacon’s Community Engagement team to support, amplify, and advocate alongside residents.

Beacon’s CEO Dara Kovel joined the New Haven Pride Center to kick off PRIDE Month and celebrate the center’s 30 years of service to the LGBTQIA+ community and the center's exciting future. As a tenant at our Ninth Square community, the Pride Center plays a vital role in supporting connection, advocacy, and belonging across Greater New Haven. Dara joined Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker, and community leaders to recognize this important milestone and the continued impact of the Center’s work. Spaces like the New Haven Pride Center serve as a foundation for the community and are critical to ensure everyone has access to environments where they feel seen, supported, and at home.
