Back to School and Community Day at The Loop at Mattapan Station!

Celebrating the end of summer and the start of back-to-school season, it was a perfect day filled with community connections, resources, and fun! City Councilor, Enrique Pepen, supported with his team - ABCD, we had Mattapan Health Clinic, Jace's Space (creating inclusive spaces where every child can thrive), Z-N-Z Slushies came with their cotton candy machine, ballon art with LOL Entertainment, Deutra Caricatures artist, and resident volunteers. Staff were able to give away book bags and items needed to start the school year with confidence!

37 Children Are Living at Wellfleet’s Lawrence Hill
With all 46 units leased, 91 people now call the affordable complex home

WELLFLEET — Five months after the first tenants started moving into the 46-unit Lawrence Hill affordable housing complex in April, the apartments are officially full. Among the 91 residents of the new units are 37 children age 17 or younger — 41 percent of the total population there.

According to Wellfleet Elementary School Principal Adam O’Shea, three of those children had already been attending the school last year, and eight of them are newly enrolled this year — a significant boost for a school that was built for 150 students but enrolled 82 last year.

“I appreciate the direction we’re headed in, and I hope it continues,” said O’Shea on Sept. 22. “I hope this is just the beginning of having more students in our community.”
..Michelle Fogarty, who lives with her husband in a townhouse unit at Lawrence Hill, said she loves seeing all the children walking back and forth to school every day.

Her daughter, Sabrinna, attended Wellfleet Elementary in the early 2000s, she said, and watching the students “reminds her of all the wonderful years” her daughter spent at the school.

Fogarty said she’s found “more of a sense of community in the last two months living here than in 23 years” living on Old Paine Hollow Road.

Emil Jones Senior Housing in Chicago hosted an appreciation lunch for their Resident Volunteers to recognize their dedication and service to the community. These volunteers consistently check on their floors, connect with fellow residents, identify concerns, and assist with maintaining a welcoming and supportive environment.

Each volunteer was provided a special lunch and presented yellow roses as a symbol of gratitude and appreciation for their time, commitment, and willingness to serve others. Thank you, volunteers!

Garfield Hills hosted a successful back-to-school event to help students and families prepare for the upcoming school year. Free backpacks were provided, filled with essential school supplies to support students' academic success. Residents also enjoyed a BBQ meal, music, games, connection, and community.

Thank you to the team at Garfield Hills who put this event together and helped create a welcoming, engaging, and family-friendly atmosphere that brought residents together in celebration and support of the community.

Thank you to Purpose Project, who provided the music and entertainment that energized the crowd.

This event equipped students with the tools they need for a successful year, strengthened relationships among residents, encouraged intergenerational engagement, and created lasting memories for families throughout the Garfield Hills community.

Every month, Lafayette Terrace residents have a lunch outing to promote healthy relationships among each other and prevent isolation. Last month's outing was held at Ooh Wee! It Is! and everyone had a great time and delicious food 🍴
