With all Marysville students back in the classroom next week, Marysville Police are reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert, especially near school buses. Each year, officers encounter drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses—one of the most dangerous violations on the road. The law is clear:
🛑Yellow lights flashing — Drivers must slow down; the bus is preparing to stop.
🛑Red lights and stop paddle extended —Drivers on a 2-lane road must STOP in both directions. For multi-lane roads or roads with a center turn lane, stopping requirements differ. See the guide for details.
🛑Divided highways — Only vehicles traveling the same direction as the bus must stop.
Passing a stopped school bus places children at immediate risk. With thousands of students returning to classrooms across Marysville, every driver plays a role in preventing collisions and keeping children safe. Enforcement will be visible and consistent throughout the school year.
