I know members of Congress have better health insurance than most Americans, but this is getting ridiculous.

Mitch McConnell has remained hospitalized for weeks following a serious medical emergency, while his office has released very limited information about his condition.

So when longtime ally Scott Jennings claimed he had spoken with McConnell for nearly 20 minutes today — discussing everything from world affairs to Senate history — the response was… less than generous.

People wanted proof.

And the fact that we need “proof of life” for a U.S. senator is insane.

Washington has trained the public not to trust vague assurances that visibly struggling politicians remain fully capable of serving.

When powerful people cling to office through serious illness, apparent incapacity, or prolonged absence, transparency becomes a public-interest issue.

And McConnell is hardly the only example.

Trump has repeatedly appeared to nod off during official events and meetings. Now, while representing the United States at the NATO summit in Turkey, footage again prompted speculation that he was falling asleep during a meeting with President Erdoğan.

These are rooms where decisions about war, alliances, the economy, and millions of lives are being made.

This isn’t about mocking anyone for getting older, becoming sick, or needing medical care.

It’s about a political culture that treats public power like something to be hoarded until death.

And voters are increasingly tired of it.

As of late June, seven House incumbents had already lost their 2026 primaries.

That doesn’t necessarily prove every voter wants term limits, but it certainly suggests an appetite for turnover.

Experience matters.

But so do vitality, fresh ideas, transparency, accountability, and knowing when it’s time to pass the torch.

Congress is supposed to be public service, not assisted living.

Term limits for Congress. Now.
