Birthdays always tend to bring reflection on the past year for me. It’s been a lonnnnng year of training but I’ve accomplished a lot and I’m proud of what I’ve done. I didn’t end this last push like I wanted (damn life gets in the way) but I made some significant progress. I originally came to help me with my Olympic lifts but we quickly agreed that I was lacking a solid strength base. Olympic lifts took a spot on the back burner as we started in on building me a solid foundation. Both form and strength.
Picture 1 on the left is maybe a few months into training with Dan. We decided that after Hypoxia (crossfit comp) we’d get to work. That picture is right after the comp. It took training 5 days a week, 2-4 hours a day, strict macros and calorie counting, frustration, exhaustion, overcoming occasional burnout, aches, pains, precise and deliberate programming and coaching with a PURPOSE, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, and more repetition. I accomplish what I set out to do and more. I went from 185lbs (1st pic) and lacking definition to 210lbs with definition. I wanted to squat 405lbs. I squared 440lbs. I wanted to strict press 185lbs. I strict pressed 202lbs.
My Olympic lifts are still improving and we’re still working on breaking my bad habits but it’s become much more natural and weights I’d sloppily struggle with prior, I’m moving cleanly and with ease… depending on the day 🤦♂️
The pursuit of self improvement never ends but it’s time for me to take some time off, take a few breaths, reset, focus on some huge life changes coming up (more to come on that), figure out my training goals, and get back to work in a few days... if you know, you know. It’s been a grind of a year but I wouldn’t change a thing.
