Very interesting
This map from 1856 shows the way water was supposed to naturally flow from central Florida into Lake Okeechobee, then south through the Everglades before emptying into Florida Bay and the Gulf. We changed all that in the early 1900s with canals, dikes, and levees to control flooding and provide water for agriculture.
