Residents at Schochet’s Riverside Towers Apartments, in partnership with Jonathan Rose Companies , recently enjoyed a fun-filled Field Day and Health Fair focused on wellness, connection, and community.

Thanks to a fitness grant from Molina Healthcare and the coordination of our resident services team, residents spent the day enjoying activities including co****le, horseshoes, croquet, bocce, giant Jenga, and lawn Connect Four while also connecting with local organizations and service providers. Representatives from Molina Healthcare, CHA PACE , Neighborhood PACE , the Arthritis Foundation , Medford MA Coa , Mystic Valley Elder Services the Medford Health Department , and the were on hand to share valuable resources and information.

One of the highlights of the day was a special visit from the Mayor of Medford, who stopped by with her dog, joined residents for a game of co****le, and took time to visit the community garden.

With approximately 40 residents in attendance, along with support from the Fresh Pond team, the event was a wonderful opportunity to promote health, build connections, and bring the community together. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success!

Residents at Retirement Housing Foundation's Binnall House Apartments in Gardner, MA (managed by Schochet) recently enjoyed a Rock & Canvas Workshop hosted through MassHousing's TAP Program and led by Blanca Sierra De Price.

The creative afternoon gave residents the opportunity to relax, paint, socialize, and express themselves through art in a fun and welcoming environment. The workshop was a wonderful way to bring residents together, and everyone had a great time showing off their creativity.

Here are a few photos from the event!

Residents at Retirement Housing Foundation’s Capitol Towers Apartments in Hartford, CT (managed by Schochet) recently came together for a special Mother’s/Women’s Day celebration filled with connection, conversation, and a little self-care.

The afternoon included lunch, desserts, refreshments, and music, creating a relaxed space for residents to spend time together and celebrate one another.

Following the meal, residents participated in a self-care activity that encouraged both creativity and relationship building through nail painting and press-on nail sets. An open discussion led by the Resident Service Coordinator focused on the importance of self-care, with residents sharing the different ways they care for themselves and support their well-being.

Each resident in attendance also received a gift bag with donated costume jewelry, and several lucky winners took home self-care raffle prizes including lotions, bath salts, face masks, bath supplies, thermoses, and purses.

It was a meaningful afternoon centered around community, kindness, and taking time to care for yourself and each other.

Our first Gymnastics Workshop, planned by resident Tabasum and led by professional acrobats, got things started. Zion returned to host the FPA 3v3 Basketball Tournament, and Hebrew SeniorLife led a senior exercise class, with some of our younger residents joining in.

Community, connection, and a whole lot of movement.

Schochet Companies is proud to be a Silver Sponsor of the 2026 New England Regional Service Coordinators (New England Resident Service Coordinators, Inc.) Conference.

NERSC plays an incredible role in our industry, supporting service coordinators who work every day to connect residents, especially older adults and those in affordable housing, with the resources they need to live safely, independently, and with dignity. From healthcare access to community programming, their work strengthens the heart of our communities.

Being part of this conference is a great reminder that property management is about more than buildings. It’s about people, connection, and care.
We’re especially proud to celebrate one of our own, Phoebe Shigley, on receiving the Excellence in Service Award for Resident Advocacy.

Phoebe’s dedication, compassion, and commitment to residents are exactly what this work is all about. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of the Schochet team and to see her recognized for the impact she makes every day.

We’re grateful to support organizations like NERSC and to celebrate individuals who make such a difference.

Tiny understood the assignment… again.

Tiny is back in style at Retirement Housing Foundation’s Capitol Towers in Hartford, CT, managed by Schochet. The community’s favorite four-legged resident is showing off a custom spring look handmade with love. From the soft pink trim to the floral details (and that iconic hair), Tiny is fully embracing the season.

Safe to say, Tiny is setting the bar pretty high for spring fashion this year.

A recent spring day at Retirement Housing Foundation's Seabury Heights (managed by Schochet) in Worcester, MA brought a chance to celebrate Earth Day in a way that felt just right.

Residents gathered to plant vibrant flowers in new planters, now welcoming everyone at the patio entrance and near Building 1. Once the refacing of Building 2 is complete, more planters will be added to continue the look throughout the community.

Others pitched in with grabbers, helping tidy up the surrounding areas and give everything a fresh start for the season. Meanwhile, the maintenance team set out benches so residents can relax, take in the views, and enjoy the warmer days ahead.

Capping off National Volunteer Week, Schochet salutes a powerful resident/staff duo at Retirement Housing Foundation’s Essex Village, managed by Schochet in North Kingstown, RI, who each contribute significantly to the surrounding community -- Louise Beaudreault & Lydia Hanhardt.

Louise, 68, volunteers at the Quidnessett Baptist Church’s clothing closet Threads of Good News one day a week, placing donations on hangers and racks and greeting people in front. She says, “We treat it like a store, but we don’t charge money and needy people can take whatever they want. We also have a medical supply room with items like wheelchairs, crutches and canes, and dog and cat food so people can keep their pets.”

Louise says that, as someone who’s on low-income herself, she first became aware of the clothing closet when she lost a lot of weight and needed new clothes. Realizing how important the program is, she began volunteering two years ago. She says, “Some people who come in are homeless or at a low point in life, so we also offer to pray with them and encourage them.”

A former music teacher, Louise is no stranger to volunteering, having previously given music lessons at battered women’s shelters and performed in nursing homes and churches.

Lydia, the Resident Services Coordinator for Essex Village and Kings Grant, has volunteered for about 12 years caring for cats and small animals at the North Kingstown Animal Shelter. She cleans cages; feeds, medicates and socializes with the animals and helps with shelter maintenance tasks such as vacuuming. She began volunteering together with her daughter in lieu of her daughter’s request for a pet. Her daughter, now in college, still joins Lydia volunteering on her breaks, and they now own a cat named Tony, whom they got from the shelter. Lydia not only volunteers two hours every Sunday morning but also assists with special events.

She is also a volunteer mentor for a local elementary school student weekly with Laymen in North Kingstown Schools (LINKS), as well as occasionally volunteering for events for local organizations such as Transformative Action for North Kingstown and the School Department. Previously, she was also a Girl Scouts volunteer.

In honor of National Volunteer Week, Schochet salutes The Resident Volunteers and Resident Ambassadors of Retirement Housing Foundation's Capitol Towers, managed by Schochet in Hartford, CT, with a special spotlight on Superstar Volunteer Juana Arroyo.

Ms. Arroyo, 82, spends several hours each day watering and/or repotting plants: cleaning and organizing community spaces and inventorying supplies; decorating and creating decorations; assisting other residents with paperwork and helping organize, run, and clean up after programming or events.

Ms. Arroyo, who moved into Capitol Towers 11 years ago, says she began volunteering for the community eight years ago. She says, “I don’t have family here, so why shouldn’t I help m neighbors? It’s nothing to me.”

She has always been a great neighbor. In a previous residence, she helped an elderly neighbor with cleaning and self-care without any compensation. She also participates in Project H.A.N.D.S. (Helping Angels National Donated Support) a Retirement Housing Foundation project through which participating residents bond as they knit and crochet winter clothing and blankets for distribution through local non-profit groups.

Resident Services Coordinator Charissa LeBron says, “She is a major link to creating and maintaining the beautification and home feel of Capitol Towers.”
Charissa holds an annual resident volunteer meeting to recruit any residents interested in giving back to the community. The meeting includes a training session for the 11 current Resident Volunteers and five Resident Ambassadors on what is volunteering, expectations, and suggestions for tasks that align with their interests, talents and skills.

These Resident Volunteers and Ambassadors assume full responsibility for Golden Hour, hosting Bingo every Thursday evening in the community room. They work together to provide social opportunities for their fellow neighbors. In March, they held a lunch fundraiser (hamburger, hot dog, chips, and drink) for the third year in a row to continue funding prizes, supplies, refreshments, and snacks.
